Fine watches for expert buyers

Recession recession. How many times have we heard this word in the last year? Probably a million… But despite the worse predictions and the continuing struggle of the worst affected countries, the world hasn’t stopped. And certainly, the world of watch collecting hasn’t yet come to an end.

According to an article published in Forbes last October, “Watches Worth Collecting”, collectors of fine watches are still avid to open their checkbook for unique and rare pieces. Last September, Antiquorum auctioneers sold three beauties for $564,000, $684,00 and $780,000 respectively. Its director Julien Shaerer explains that rare fine watches are more likely to hold their value than cheaper five-figure items. He also makes the interesting point that collectors are becoming ever more knowledgeable about detail.

Now, we’re really talking about the higher end of collectors, those who can afford to pay for the one model that stands out of the lot because of the killer detail no other model has. The nice thing about fine watch collecting is that it’s not a matter of flashing the cash: in order to justify such an investment, you’ve got to back it up with genuine expertise. That’s what makes it so special!
